Artist statement
Chalío’s work stems from a deep need to translate his observations of the world into a visual language that feels authentic to him. He works with monoprints and collages, layering them with acrylic paint on paper; a process that reflects his desire to recreate reality in alignment with his inner landscape.
Cutting, rearranging, printing, and painting serve as a metaphor for reclaiming one’s true self, independent of the identities imposed by society. The fragmented, reconstructed surfaces reveal his ongoing quest for authenticity beneath layers of expectation and cultural pressure.
His visual language is rooted in Dadaism and Mexican folk art. Disciplines that embrace imagination, playfulness, and freedom. From this perspective, he explores how people become alienated from their own desires due to ideals of productivity, achievement, and survival.
In his work, Chalío makes this alienation visible: the tension between who we truly are and who we are expected to be. His images invite reflection and a reconnection with that quiet, inner knowing beyond the noise, the pressure, and the performance.
Ultimately, his art is an invitation to return to the inner self and recover one’s personal source of truth.
